Sherley
Psychodynamic Counsellor & Psychotherapist, MSc, MBACP (Accred)
I am a BACP accredited psychodynamic counsellor and psychotherapist, working in private practice in central London, both face-to-face and online. I qualified from Birkbeck, University of London.

Starting counselling or psychotherapy might feel daunting and it is important to find the right counsellor. I provide an open and non-judgmental space in which to support, challenge and be curious about yourself and about the changes that you want to make.

I have experience helping people from a variety of backgrounds with a range of difficulties, including anxiety and depression. In addition to private practice, I work in Higher Education counselling and with EAPs. Previous experience as a therapist includes an NHS IAPT service, two Russell Group universities and the group practice One Therapy London.

What I can help with
I have worked with a range of people on difficulties including anxiety, depression, ill health, relationship problems, bereavement, concerns around life transitions such as redundancy or moving countries, traumatic experiences, or even just the feeling that something is not quite right in their lives. Getting in touch
If you think counselling could be beneficial to you, you can get in touch via my contact page. I will respond as soon as I can to set up a brief phone call (usually around 15 minutes) to talk about what you might be looking for from counselling or therapy and how I may be able to help.

How I work and the first session
If you would like to proceed after our phone call, we will book an initial session during which there is more time and space for me to understand what brings you to therapy and for you to get an idea of what working with me might be like. It is also a chance to get a flavour of the psychodynamic approach, and to see if it feels like the right approach for you. If you then wish to continue with ongoing sessions, we will agree a time that suits for weekly sessions at the same time and day each week.

I have experience working both open-ended and in a time-limited way. Time-limited counselling is usually between 6 and 12 sessions.

Fees
The initial consultation is £80 and lasts 50 minutes. Ongoing sessions are charged on a sliding scale based on your individual financial circumstances, starting at £80. I offer limited reduced-fee spaces for those who are on a low income or would otherwise be unable to afford therapy. I accept payment by bank transfer or cash.

Confidentiality
Everything we speak about in sessions is confidential and will not be disclosed to third parties. There are a few legal exceptions, which we will discuss at our initial meeting. In common with all BACP member therapists, I attend regular clinical supervision to help me maintain a high standard in my practice. Names and identifying details are not discussed in supervision in order to preserve client confidentiality.

Professional memberships
I am an accredited member of the BACP and I abide by their framework for ethical standards. I am also a member of the Birkbeck Counselling Association (BCA).

Contact Me
I'm currently seeing clients face-to-face in therapy rooms in central London. Sessions also remain available online via Zoom or Skype. The room is located in the heart of London's West End, a few minutes' walk from Goodge Street, Oxford Circus and Great Portland Street underground stations, and well served by local buses.

Accessibility: My therapy room is on the third floor in a building without a lift and is unfortunately inaccessible for wheelchair users. You can find more information on the building and rooms, as well as book an initial consultation in selected timeslots, at A Room In Town.

Please note that I only work with adults over the age of 18.
